Rideau Lakes is bringing back its Doors Open event for the first time in nearly a decade, giving visitors rare access to 19 fascinating sites, for free, August 16 and 17.
Organized by the Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee and Doors Open Ontario, this unique weekend will showcase historical, cultural, and natural landmarks, including a centuries-old military blockhouse, a 160-year-old baptismal font, and a colour-changing stained-glass window.
Visitors can also explore behind-the-scenes locations like a rural mausoleum, a historic flour mill, and one of the oldest stone buildings in the township. Some sites offer special demonstrations and guided walks, including scientists leading nature tours and blacksmiths at work.
This is a one-time opportunity to step inside places normally closed to the public or that usually charge admission.
Hours, site details, and extra events can be found at www.doorsopenontario.on.ca/rideaulakes.
