On July 15th the Town of Carleton Place declared a Water Demand Status RED and asked residents to limit all outdoor water use.
The Town stated the need to limit outdoor water use was directly associated with the increase in lawn and garden watering.
They added the RED status means the current water usage is exceeding the system’s ability to produce drinking water.
They also want to ensure there are enough reserves in the system to meet emergency needs.
The RED notice went into effect on July 15th until further notice.
Mayor Toby Randell posted on his social media account, “People believe that our additional housing is the cause of these requests and while they do add to the usage we never have these requests during the winter, spring or fall. Only during the hottest stretches of the summer months.”
