The old water treatment plant shortly after the fire in 2023
Work continues on the site of the old Smiths Falls Water Treatment Plant.
The demolition of the building began in February, and the town’s now working to restore the location for future development.
CAO Malcom Morris said there were some delays as they changed their initial fill-in approach.
Morris said this will provide a stronger foundation on the other side.
He noted there’s no date yet on when that work will be complete, but the town’s mindful of multiple summer events quickly approaching in that part of town and they want to ensure that work provides minimal disruption.
Council voted to demolish the site in 2024 after a fire the previous year caused $2.5 million of damage.
