Smiths Falls Police are warning the public about fake Facebook posts claiming to sell tickets for the sold-out Old Home Week Dance set for August 2nd.
Organizers from the Rotary Club say all tickets for the event were sold in person only—none were offered online or through electronic sales.
Despite this, scammers have created fake profiles on social media to trick people into buying non-existent tickets.
Police are asking anyone who may have been a victim of this fraud to contact the Smiths Falls Police Service at 613-283-0357, extension 0.
With the event now completely sold out, residents are being urged not to send money to anyone claiming to have extra tickets for sale online.
Officials say it’s a good reminder to always double-check with event organizers before purchasing tickets from unknown sources, especially through social media platforms.
