The Carleton Place planning department held an open house on August 8th to present their Franktown Road Secondary Plan with proposals to develop the lands between Franktown Road and McNeeley Avenue north of Highway 7.
In the works are proposals from several developers to build medium mixed-use and residential buildings up to 6 storeys along with new roads and sidewalks to handle the traffic from hundreds of new residents.
Attendees had plenty of questions, but the feedback wasn’t all negative as one of the visitors explained.
The balance between keeping a small town feel while accommodating necessary growth is important to many.
Managing traffic at one of the Town’s main entrances is key to a workable neighbourhood, but the Planners’ success isn’t yet guaranteed
Access to Franktown Road from the new buildings will be restricted with new roads, sidewalks and multi-use paths taking traffic to Franktown Road and McNeeley Avenue at signalized intersections.
A statutory public meeting on this secondary play will take place on August 26th at 6 pm in Council Chambers.
