While many members of the public were surprised by the recent news that the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) was considering closing the R. Tait MacKenzie and James Naismith exhibits at their Mill of Kintail, Mississippi Mills councillor and MVCA board member Mary Lou Souter said this was one stage in a long process.
Mary Lou pointed out that both she and fellow councillor/board member Bev Holmes have been appealing to the MVCA board to keep the collections in place.
Mary Lou noted it would be an uphill battle to change the course as the Mills only has a limited voice, even with the backing of neighbouring communities.
Council passed a motion to seek more detail on the MVCA’s plans and to have the Mayor appear as a delegation at their next board meeting.
