The Rideau Valley Water Response Team has declared a Level 3 Low Water Advisory for the Rideau Valley watershed after officials met Monday, August 18.
The advisory follows weeks of heat waves and ongoing rainfall deficits. A Level 3 advisory signals serious dry conditions but does not declare an emergency.
Rainfall totals across the watershed remain far below normal. Over the last 90 days, totals are at 50–70 per cent of the seasonal average. In the past month, most areas saw less than 40 per cent of expected rainfall. The Ottawa region has also endured 22 days above 30 C this summer, worsening drought impacts.
Residents and businesses are strongly urged to cut non-essential water use to protect surface and groundwater supplies. Private well users should monitor their water levels and seek help if problems arise. Conservation Authority staff continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates.
