Carleton Place residents are being asked to watch their water use after the town’s water treatment plant moved to Yellow – Conserve status.
Town officials say the Yellow level means demand is higher than normal, though not yet at critical levels.
Residents are encouraged to make small changes to help protect supplies and reduce strain on the system.
The municipality suggests simple steps to conserve water. Watering gardens and lawns should be done when the sun is low to prevent evaporation. Drought-resistant plants and trees are recommended, along with mulching to lock in moisture. Residents are also reminded not to water paved areas and to raise lawnmower blades to keep grass healthy during dry conditions.
The town also suggests using rain barrels to collect water for gardens and planters.
Officials stress that being mindful now will help maintain supplies for essential needs throughout the summer.
Twice this summer the demand level has reached Red – Critical status.
