Carleton Place council was recently faced with deciding whether or not to add several privately held properties to their Strategic Properties list.
Town Planner Niki Dwyer presented her rationale for the request.
Some of the affected owners have indicated they may redevelop their lands for residential use in the future.
Two of the properties are located in the central business area and this presented traffic problems to Mayor Toby Randell.
Included on the proposed list was the Carleton Place High School, looking forward to the day when a new school would be built on another site.
Toby asked council to consider the livability factor in their vote.
The properties proposed were 153-205 Edwards Drive , 215 Lake Avenue W (CPHS), 2 Lansdowne Avenue (Cheerful Giver), 25-55 Lansdowne Avenue (CP Mews) and 82-84 Mill Street.
All of these owners had expressed interest in multi-residential development of their sites.
Council’s committee voted to keep the existing list as is and to prepare Official Plan and Development Bylaw amendments for public consultation later this year.
