The Ontario government is investing more than $450,000 over the next two years to strengthen Mobile Crisis Response Teams (MCRTs) led by the Lanark County OPP and Frontenac OPP.
The funding will allow police to work directly with trained mental health and addictions professionals when responding to calls involving people in crisis. These teams focus on de-escalating situations that could pose risks to public safety while ensuring individuals are connected with the right supports.
MCRTs have been shown to reduce pressures on police, emergency rooms, and hospitals by providing immediate, on-site assistance during mental health or addictions-related emergencies. The partnership model enables officers and crisis workers to respond together, combining law enforcement with specialized care.
The local investment is part of Ontario’s $9 million Mobile Crisis Response Team Enhancement Grant, which is being distributed over 2025-26 and 2026-27 to 36 police services and OPP detachments across the province. The initiative aims to expand the reach of MCRTs, increase their capacity, and build safer, healthier communities.
