A Canada-Ukraine flag flies in Smiths Falls as a show of support
One of the outcomes of the Ukraine Fest Lanark, which is back for its third edition in Carleton Place on September 13th has been the twinning of Smiths Falls with a Ukrainian city.
Fest organizer Olga Ialovenko tells us of the rebirth of these initiatives in Canada.
The most recent agreement was signed earlier this year.
Olga sees great benefits to Ukrainians through these agreements such as learning how Canadian communities have much better lines of communication between residents and their leaders.
When announcing the twinning Mayor Shawn Pankow stated, “This partnership is more than symbolic — it is a commitment to learning from one another, sharing our strengths, and promoting peace and cooperation across borders. We are humbled to walk alongside our Ukrainian partners in both support and friendship.”
You can learn more while having a great time at this year’s Ukraine Fest Lanark at Carleton Place’s Riverside Park on September 13th from noon to 8 pm.
