The Smiths Falls and Community Food Bank says demand remained high in July, with 1,004 visitors turning to its services. That included 592 adults, 337 children, and 75 seniors, with 27 people visiting for the first time.
To keep shelves stocked, the food bank spent $17,561.59 on food and $203.89 on hygiene items such as diapers and baby wipes. Volunteers distributed 19,718 pounds of perishable and non-perishable food throughout the month.
Donations continue to play an important role. In June, the food bank received 2,554 pounds of food, along with fresh produce such as zucchini, cucumbers, and lettuce from local gardens and the community’s own plots.
The food bank also recorded 312 volunteer hours in July, reflecting strong support from residents.
The most-needed items this month are pasta sauce, tuna, stews, and soups.
