A new partnership between the Canadian Veteran Service Dog Unit and Lanark County Paramedic Services will see members socalize and help acclimatize the dogs.
CVSDU President Dwyane Sawyer brought 11-week old golden retriever Zeus and four-year-old Nala to LCPS HQ last week and walked us through the purpose of the visit.
Sawyer is a retired veteran who served in Afghanistan, and shared his personal experience with service dogs.
LCPS Commander Tristan Layer said they’re always looking for ways to support members’ mental health and this partnership does exactly that.
The goal is to have monthly visits with LCPS staff to help both the paramedics and the dogs training process on the way to certification.
