Perth council’s committee received a proposal to engage Frontenac Municipal Law Enforcement for animal control services.
The previous contractor Laura Lowson, who had been doing the job since 2022, suddenly passed earlier this year.
Town Director Trevor Choffe explained the process for stray dogs and cats.
Dogs are taken to a no-kill shelter in Kemptville.
Frontenac Municipal Law Enforcement currently provides animal bylaw services for over a dozen Eastern Ontario communities.
Choffe reassured council that they have the capacity to take on Perth.
The change requires formal council approval and once given, calls can be made directly to Frontenac Enforcement or to Perth staff who will provide the phone number.
