Smiths Falls is giving property owners a chance to weigh in on the future of its historic downtown.
The town will release its draft Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plan during a public session on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Town Hall Council Chambers, 77 Beckwith Street North.
The plan will outline how both “contributing” and “non-contributing” properties in the district will be maintained to protect the community’s built heritage. Owners can learn whether their property is considered a heritage “contributing property” and what that means for renovations, signage, or repairs. Guidance will also be shared for non-contributing properties, along with details on when a Heritage Alteration Permit may be required.
The town says input from residents and property owners will help shape the final plan. The draft HCD Plan is available online at smithsfalls.ca/hcdstudy.
