A veterans banner hangs proudly in The Town of Perth (2023)
The Town of Perth is preparing to honour local veterans with its annual Pathway of Heroes this weekend.
The tribute is organized by the Royal Canadian Legion Perth-Upon-Tay Branch 244, with Sue Doran leading the effort and support from the Town of Perth and Downtown Heritage Perth BIA.
The weekend begins Friday, September 26, with Lasagna & Luminaries, a private gathering for veterans and banner families from 5 to 8:15 p.m. Luminary lanterns will be placed by families at veteran banners throughout the evening.
On Saturday, September 27, residents are encouraged to walk through Perth to view banners all day.
Events include the Rideau Canal Cloggers at Town Hall, a Hall of Remembrance display, and a Quilt of Valour presentation to veteran Norman Sweeney.
The day also features an Indigenous CiceWa Crumming Ceremony and a motorcycle drive-by honouring veterans, ending with refreshments at the Perth Legion.
