Our series Silence Broken: Continuing the conversation about Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), continues.
This week we welcome Kirsten Mercer a lawyer and feminist activist who represented Ending Violence Against Women (or EVA) at the inquest into the deaths of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk and Nathalie Warmerdam.
Up for discussion with Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee were tools developed to help implement the recommendations from that Inquest.
Mercer says the Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) addressed stakeholders who believed they couldn’t share confidential information from clients about real, present dangers.
Lee says the IPC made sure they spoke with the proper people to make sure that information makes it to the people that need it.
Part of the discussion also surrounds communities working together through the creation of commissions, tables or committees to help IPV victims. They would create the same sense of security that police or paramedics do for the community.
