We’re highlighting local initiatives and efforts to mark today’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
A day dedicated to honouring the indigenous children who died while in the residential school system, while honouring survivors and their familues.
It’s also known as “Orange Shirt Day,” and among those taking part is the Smiths Falls Police Service.
Constable Sean Keogan says they’re a small part of a larger, community effort.
Keogan says Orange Shirt Day is a way to physically show support for the cause, instead of acting silently.
After all, he says, taking part in the community is paramount when it comes to the Service’s responsibility.
The Town of Smiths Falls is also hosting a ceremony to mark the day, beginning at the water tower at 5pm.
