The Smiths Falls Community Food Bank says it served 1,059 visitors in August, highlighting a continued need for support as local families face rising food costs.
Of those visitors, 624 were adults, 363 were children, and 72 were seniors. The food bank says 17 people were new clients last month.
To meet demand, the food bank spent $18,930.76 on food in August, though donations of hygiene products helped offset some costs. Volunteers distributed 21,989 pounds of perishable and non-perishable food, while receiving 5,224 pounds of donations. Volunteers also gave 260 hours of their time to help keep the shelves stocked and support families in need.
The food bank is asking the community for donations of pasta sauce, mac and cheese, stews, and baked beans, which are most needed this month.
Residents can support the food bank by donating food, money, or time to help neighbours who are struggling.
