Smiths Falls Police issued a public alert after a high-risk sex offender was seen acting suspiciously in town.
Investigators later learned John “Nathan” Nicol had entered a Brockville school earlier that morning before fleeing when confronted. He is now in custody awaiting a bail hearing on charges related to the Brockville incident.
Officers say Nicol, who is on probation following a conviction in Ottawa for an indecent act, was observed around 11 a.m. on September 29 near Main and McGill streets. Witnesses reported him hiding behind shrubs and trying various doors. His vehicle, a black Hyundai Sonata, was found nearby blocking a driveway.
Nicol is under strict probation conditions, including avoiding places where children may be present and not contacting anyone under 16 without supervision.
Smiths Falls Police are asking residents to review security footage from September 29 and report any sightings.
