Arklan Community Public School will host its annual Terry Fox Run on Friday, October 3, but this year the event carries a deeply personal meaning.
The school is rallying behind Sam Rudge, daughter of Vice-Principal Sarah Rudge, who has been bravely battling osteosarcoma, the same cancer that Terry Fox faced. Earlier this year, Sam underwent lung surgery and a critical ICU stay before being diagnosed with both osteosarcoma and leukemia. Doctors gave her only six months to live, but her health has steadily improved.
Students and staff have already raised more than $14,000 through online donations, t-shirt sales, and a student-led Real World Learning fundraiser.
The run will be followed by a prize assembly where top fundraisers will get the chance to pie or soak their teachers. Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell and school Superintendent Casey Nelson will join the community celebration.
