Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom is seeking provincial intervention on the local level.
In a letter to Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Robert Flack, Hoogenboom is calling on the province to dissolve the entire township council — including his own seat — and trigger a new election.
Hoogenboom says it’s the only way to restore civility and public confidence after a term marked by deep division.
The letter was submitted following the October 6th council meeting which saw seven integrity commissioner reports on the agenda, and Deputy Mayor Deborah Hutchings call 9-1-1 on members of the public, who were yelling at council members at times during the meeting.
