Lanark County council decided to defer comment on speed enforcement cameras as the province seeks their outright removal until June 2026.
A letter of support was tabled in a lobbying effort to have the cameras remain in place near school zones, even if the ban goes in place everywhere else.
Councillor Andrew Tennant questioned the efficacy of the letter.
Councillor Rob Rainer saw no issue with backing the letter.
Tennant says they’re trying to be friendly with the province on other matters and making an opposing view on what seems to be an already-decided move would only hurt their cause.
Other councillors were hesitant to take an opposing view on a decision which seems barreling towards confirmation.
