Carleton Place Council reviewed a staff proposal for changes to their fees and charges for 2026 with relatively modest increases to account for inflation and other cost pressures. One item, to charge residents $3 to cover the cost of mailing paper bills, didn’t sit well with most councillors, like Jeff Atkinson.
Treasurer Trisa McConkey noted that Carleton Place had one of the highest rates of residents using electronic billing at around 60%. Deputy Mayor Andrew Tennant also opposed the move but for a different reason.
Council’s committee amended the schedule to remove the fee.
