This week marks Crime Prevention Week across Ontario, and Smiths Falls Police are reminding residents that everyone has a role to play in keeping their community safe.
The theme, Working Together to Protect Ontario, highlights how neighbours, businesses, and local organizations can work together to prevent crime before it happens. Police are encouraging residents to increase visibility around their homes, leave lights on when away, and secure doors, locks, and mail to help deter theft.
Officers say these small steps make a big difference — especially during darker fall and winter months when break-ins tend to rise.
The Smiths Falls Police Service urges residents to stay alert, report suspicious activity, and look out for each other.
Together, they say, the community can reduce crime and create safer streets for everyone.
