The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 in Smiths Falls is preparing for its annual Remembrance Day ceremony today, honouring those who served and sacrificed for Canada.
Public Relations Officer Ken Manwell, a 50-year member of the Legion, says participants will gather in front of the Legion at 10:30 a.m. before marching to the cenotaph just in time for the 11 a.m. moment of silence. Manwell says the community’s support continues to touch his heart.
Following the silence, the ceremony will feature speeches from the Legion president and the mayor, prayers, and the laying of wreaths by dignitaries and families.
Manwell says the growing community turnout each year shows that remembrance in Smiths Falls remains deeply meaningful and strong.
A highlight of the ceremony will once again be Riley Morrell’s recitation of In Flanders Fields, a tradition she began as a child in 2019.
