92.3 WOW FM on-air host BK at the 2025 event
It’s not every day a local radio personality can say they helped create one of Canada’s most powerful songs.
Back in 2009, 92.3 WOW FM’s BK was invited by his friends in The Trews to record bagpipes for their moving anthem “Highway of Heroes.”
BK, who had performed live with the band before, was called to a Scarborough studio within 48 hours, joined by Kingston piper Eric Kilpatrick.
The two worked under producer Gord Johnson of Big Sugar to bring the haunting melody to life.
BK recalled that it took him about eight or nine takes to get it right.
With BK also serving in the Canadian Forces at the time, the experience carried deep meaning.
BK will be playing at today’s Remembrance Day Ceremony in Carleton Place.
