The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is sounding the alarm as severe capacity pressures push its emergency department to the limit.
Hospital officials say a shortage of inpatient beds is creating major challenges, with the ER now forced to prioritize patients strictly based on the severity of their condition. That means anyone with non-urgent concerns should expect significantly longer wait times.
The hospital stresses that anyone experiencing a true medical emergency must call 911 right away. Paramedics will assess patients and take them to the nearest emergency department if needed.
Staff say they are working under extraordinary pressure as they try to care for a high number of patients with limited space. PSFDH is asking residents for patience, understanding and respect during this critical period.
They also remind the public that kindness toward health-care workers helps maintain a safe environment for everyone.
The hospital thanks the community for its ongoing support during the urgent situation.
