New data shows nearly 2,000 Smiths Falls residents relied on Kingston Health Sciences Centre for medical care this past year. KHSC reported 7,894 total visits from Smiths Falls patients in the 2024–25 fiscal year, highlighting how many local residents depend on Kingston’s specialist services.
Most visits were outpatient appointments, with more than 6,200 recorded. Another 1,058 visits were cancer-related, along with 226 inpatient stays, 185 surgeries and 179 emergency visits.
KHSC now serves about 650,000 people across southeastern Ontario. It operates as an academic health sciences centre, offering advanced services such as cardiac care, intensive pediatric care, diagnostic imaging and regional cancer treatment. Many Lanark County residents also access satellite programs, including local dialysis, stroke rehabilitation and digital pathology.
Planning is underway for a new Kingston General Hospital, with early phases focused on expanding inpatient capacity and emergency services.
Smiths Falls council said the community clearly benefits from Kingston’s care and agreed to revisit the issue during future budget talks.
