Smiths Falls council is preparing to bring major funding concerns to the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto this January.
Council members say declining provincial support and rising infrastructure costs are putting pressure on local budgets.
At a recent committee of the whole meeting, Treasurer Paul Dowber outlined three key issues the town will raise with provincial ministers: Connecting Links funding for the Beckwith Street bridges, a sharp cut to the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, and the financial impact of development charge exemptions for long-term care homes.
Smiths Falls is facing a drop of more than $90,000 in OCIF funding next year.
Council members said the reduction comes at a time when municipalities across Ontario are losing revenue tools while costs continue to rise.
The town plans to work with the Eastern Ontario Mayors Caucus on shared concerns about OCIF and long-term care charges.
Council unanimously supported the delegation plan.
