On November 13th, Carleton Place Council and staff sat down for a day-long session to wade through their 2026 budget and resulting tax increases. Town Treasurer Trisa McConkey covered the major cost increases that are expected in 2026.
They include a $170K hike in garbage collection and landfill fees, a reduction in Provincial funding for roads of $82K, $146K in new staff hires (not yet finalized) and a $55K jump in benefits, also yet to be approved.
Development growth is expected to bring in about $320K more next year representing a 2% increase in tax income. Her recommendation was to hike the property tax levy by 3%.
This would mean $23.73 more per $100K of assessment. For a home, provincially assessed at the Town’s median value of $295K, this would mean approximately $72 more next year. The Town is planning another day-long session on November 20th and expects to finalize the budget on December 6th.
Carleton Place expects to raise $17.3M through taxes next year.
