Carleton Place Council took another crack at the Town’s 2026 budget on November 20th in a special committee meeting.
They removed $309,000 out of planned expenditures by deferring some non-urgent capital works.
They also put off engaging a consultant to help complete a transit study, opting to wait until Lanark County’s report is filed, among other costs.
At the end they decided on a 1.95% property tax hike which means a $15.42 jump for every $100,000 of assessed value or $45.50 for a home provincially assessed at the Town’s median value of $295,000.
The low increase, the lowest in this term of council, was achieved in part by using almost $1 million in reserve funds.
They also voted to eliminate any amendment period as of November 20th, which, when combined with the Mayor’s pledge not to use new Strong Mayor Powers to adjust the budget, means the 2026 budget is now considered accepted.
