At Lanark County’s Community Services Committee meeting, staff provided an update on an affordable housing apartment at 1830 Rogers Road in Perth. The agreements to provide federal, and provincial funding were signed in 2008, and in December of this year, the building is entering into a 5-year phase-out period.
Lanark County’s Housing Services Manager Kaitlyn Murray explains what that means.
Five of the 15 units in the building have their rents set at $770 per month as rent-gear-to-income apartments.
The remaining 10 are priced as affordable under a 20 year agreement with the Province. Those units will see their 5 year phase-out period commence within a year. Kaityn explained what that could mean to the County.
When questioned by County councillors, Kaitlyn indicated that any tenant of the building who remained in their units after the funding agreements expired would still have their rents protected. But once a tenant moved out, the landlord would be free to raise the unit’s rent.
