A new ESL program in Smiths Falls began earlier this month.
Lanark & Renfrew Immigrant Settlement Services (LRISS) says newcomers arrive each Thursday at the Smiths Falls Public Library to practise English in a relaxed, friendly setting.
The free sessions, running Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., focus on small-group conversations and everyday topics that help participants feel more confident navigating life in Canada. LRISS says the informal “ESL Circles” are designed to help people meet others, ask questions, and build real communication skills without pressure.
Organizers say the welcoming environment has been key to the early success of the program, with new faces joining each week as word spreads.
Anyone looking to improve their English is invited to attend.
To register or learn more, residents can contact LRISS at settlement@lanarkcounty.ca or 343-402-8630.
