The Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service is expanding mental health and wellness resources for its frontline staff through its Peer Support Team.
The volunteer team, created three years ago, offers 24-hour peer-to-peer support for paramedics, backed by specialized training. Earlier this year, new members were added to meet growing needs.
In October, the service received a one-time provincial grant of $25,000 through Ontario’s Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel program. The funding will go toward advanced training, including a three-day Peer Support Fundamentals course in December that focuses on active listening and experiential learning.
Officials say the investment will help strengthen mental health resources and ensure paramedics remain healthy and resilient as they continue serving the community.
