At Carleton Place Council’s recent committee meeting, councillors gave the provisional green light to a new commercial development near the recently opened Winner’s store on McNeely Avenue.
The narrow strip of land between the Winner’s parking lot and the entrance lane to Walmart will see a long building (1542 square-metres) capable of holding up to 8 retail outlets plus a separate facility with drive-through lanes. Completion is projected to be sometime in 2028.
Staff would not identify which retailers (or how many) might locate in the new buildings but were adamant they wouldn’t include Costco or Farm Boy.
The applicant Smart Centres REIT, sought relief from the requirement for 201 parking spaces to reduce that condition to 200, and to reduce the number of required loading spaces from two to one.
