Mississippi Mills is set to sparkle with festive cheer this weekend, starting with their ever popular Light Up the Night event on Mill Street in Almonte on Friday (Dec 5). Ottawa Valley favourite, Wayne Rostad will emcee as usual with music by Rachelle Behrens, Nelson Colt, Braiden Wyman and more. Mill Street will be closed to traffic and street vendors will be set up by 6:30 pm with the concert beginning at 7. The night will end with a spectacular fireworks finale.
On Saturday (Dec 6) the annual Santa Claus parade hits the streets in Pakenham starting at the Stewart Community Centre at 1 pm. It will wind though the charming village streets twice to ensure no one misses the magic before ending up back at the Community Centre. The Pakenham and District Civitan Club will be collecting food and cash donations to support the Lanark County Food Bank – The Hunger Stop and these great volunteers will be serving free hot dogs and hot chocolate at the Community Centre to go along with a free public skate until 4 pm.
On Sunday, (Dec 7) the Almonte Christmas Parade will dazzle spectators with an evening festival of lights, starting at 5 pm at the Rexall Parking Lot at 430 Ottawa Street. It will head down Ottawa Street through Main Street and then up Mill Street, ending at the John Levi Community Centre. The Almonte Scouts will be collecting food and cash donations in support of the Almonte Lions and Civitan Clubs’ Christmas food hampers. Learn more at MississippiMills.ca
