The Township of Rideau Lakes says a proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) planned for 774 Highway 15 in Lombardy is no longer moving forward — at least for now.
The proponent, Simon Rowland, CEO of Renewable Power Partners Inc., has withdrawn his request, halting the project before it reached the municipal approval stage.
Township officials say the proposal is no longer under consideration but note the proponent may choose to submit a new application in the future. If that happens, the Township says the project would be reviewed under all municipal and provincial rules, including full opportunities for public engagement.
The proposed facility had drawn interest from residents in Lombardy and the surrounding Rideau Lakes area, where large-scale energy projects often spark questions about safety, land use and long-term community impact.
Township staff say they remain committed to keeping residents informed and ensuring all planning processes are transparent, impartial and accessible as development proposals evolve.
