Festive RIDE programs continue to catch impaired drivers across eastern Ontario as police step up enforcement during the holiday season.
East Region Ontario Provincial Police say 67 people have been arrested and charged with impaired driving since the campaign began on Thursday, Nov. 20. That total includes 18 charges laid in the past week.
OPP officers from Quinte West to the Quebec boundary, and northwest through the Ottawa Valley, have conducted more than 800 Festive RIDE programs so far. Police say drivers are being checked for impairment by alcohol or drugs at all hours of the day and night.
Anyone charged with impaired driving has received a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment, along with a future court date. Officers have also issued 15 three-day licence suspensions to drivers who registered in the warn range on roadside screening devices.
The Festive RIDE campaign runs until Jan. 1, 2026. Police urge residents to call 9-1-1 if they suspect impaired driving.
