Sue Brandum, co-founder and director for Climate Network Lanark made a presentation to Carleton Place council to announce that the Network’s Neighbourhood Climate Concierge Program is coming to Town. It connects community members who own single-family homes with tailored resources, information, and expertise to help navigate and implement climate action in their homes. Sue noted the specific homeowner group it’s aimed at.
The Program runs for 6 months and participants spend 2 hours per month to hear from experts on funding, energy assessments, heat pumps, insulation, house resiliency, solar panels, and more. A one-time fee of $25 covers printed materials. Sue adds that one of the strengths of the Program is the ability for residents to share information.
Sue reported that there are more financial assistance and grant resources than ever with some covering the full cost of new heat pumps and installation. There are also grants for insulation, solar panels, and improved energy appliances. Some programs can be stacked to achieve maximum benefits. Sue told councillors that their eligibility criteria brings accessibility for many homeowners.
Sue plans to get the Program started in Carleton Place started in January and says 10-12 participants per group is ideal with 5 already signed up. You can learn more and sign up at climatenetworklanark.ca/climate-concierge.
