The New Year’s holiday will bring a quiet start to 2026, with many businesses and public services closed across the region.
Town halls, Service Ontario locations and federal government offices will be closed for the day, and there will be no mail delivery. Municipal services such as public libraries will also be closed.
The Beer Store and LCBO locations will not be open on New Year’s Day. However, convenience stores are allowed to sell beer, wine and pre-mixed drinks, giving last-minute hosts a few options.
Most retailers and restaurants will remain closed, although some businesses may choose to open with reduced holiday hours. Residents are encouraged to check ahead before heading out.
The New Year’s holiday is a time for rest, reflection and fresh starts, and officials remind residents to plan errands accordingly.
From everyone at WOW FM and myFM, best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy New Year as 2026 gets underway, together locally.
