The Avon Maitland District School Board has announced a decision to postpone the Grade 9 EQAO Math assessments scheduled for later this month due to the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation work-to-rule job action.
Superintendent of Education Jane Morris says the school board has found an alternative measure to assess student learning.
Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce says students missing this EQAO assessment can write it with the second semester students in June, but Morris says that’s too far away from now for the board to make that decision.
Morris says the AMDSB have both OSSTF teachers and support staff so there was no feasible way these tests could be conducted on time.
She said they expected the ministry to tell school boards how to proceed as the contract negotiations continued to drag on but rather they deferred the decisions to be made locally.
