Collisions are happening more often as winter weather continues to create slippery roads across eastern Ontario, and police are reminding drivers what to do if they are involved in a crash.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the first priority after any collision is safety, especially when traffic is still moving.
Schmidt says if vehicles are drivable, drivers should move to a safe location such as a parking lot or gas station to avoid further risk from passing traffic.
The Sgt. also stresses the importance of properly exchanging information before going to a collision reporting centre.
Schmidt says having all details collected makes reporting faster and more efficient for everyone involved.
Police are reminding drivers to slow down, leave extra space, and adjust driving to winter conditions to reduce the risk of collisions.
