The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is asking for the public’s help following several thefts and attempted thefts of copper wire between Smiths Falls and Merrickville.
Police say the most recent incident happened shortly before midnight on Sunday, Jan. 11, at a facility located at 1183 County Road 43. Communication wires were cut and a pole was damaged. Investigators believe a ladder was used to access the wires.
OPP say this is the third similar incident reported in the area since Jan. 1.
Anyone with information, including dashcam or surveillance video, is asked to contact Lanark County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident E260050095. Tips can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Police are also asking residents to report any suspicious activity near electrical or communication facilities where large amounts of copper wire may be present.
