Transportation remains at a standstill for a second straight day across eastern Ontario as crews continued cleanup from a major winter storm that dumped up to 35 centimetres of snow on our listening area.
School bus and special vehicle transportation was cancelled in all counties served by the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board, leaving families to make their own arrangements.
Officials said the cancellations were needed to allow plows to clear roads, shoulders and intersections after heavy snowfall and blowing snow created hazardous conditions.
Despite the transportation shutdown, all schools remained open. Parents and guardians who are able to safely travel are welcome to drop off and pick up their children.
Municipal crews continued working extended hours to widen lanes, clear sidewalks and remove snowbanks left by the storm.
Drivers were urged to stay patient, give snowplows space and avoid unnecessary travel while cleanup continues.
