Freezing conditions have forced police to temporarily pause search efforts at a residential property in Montague Township as a homicide investigation continues.
The Ontario Provincial Police say officers will maintain a presence at the Kelly Jordan Road property near Smiths Falls, but detailed searching will resume in the spring due to the ground being frozen.
Police were executing a search warrant at the site on Oct. 30, 2025, when they located the remains of 34-year-old Smiths Falls resident Robbie Thomson, who had been reported missing in October 2023. Three people charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case remain in custody.
Despite the pause, police say the investigation remains active and any new information will continue to be followed up.
The investigation involves Lanark County OPP, the Smiths Falls Police Service, the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and the Office of the Chief Coroner, with support from forensic specialists.
Residents can expect a police presence at the property throughout the winter.
