A Tay Valley Township resident is facing impaired driving charges following an early-morning traffic stop in the Perth area.
The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police says officers received a report from a citizen about a possible impaired driver in the Town of Perth on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026.
Police later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop just before 2:30 a.m. on County Road 43 in Drummond-North Elmsley Township after observing it travelling at a high rate of speed.
The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the OPP detachment in Perth for testing.
As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Justin Heney of Tay Valley Township has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.
Police say the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
