Construction is now underway on a new affordable housing project in Perth, with residents expected to move in by the end of 2026.
Linden Housing Co-operative says work has officially started at 79 Wilson Street West after receiving a full building permit from the Town of Perth earlier this month.
The project recently received a $250,000 Affordable Housing Capital Grant from Lanark County. As part of the funding agreement, 10 units in the building will be set aside through the county’s Rent-Geared-to-Income program, using its centralized waiting list.
Steven Welchner, chair of Linden Housing Co-operative, says the project is the result of years of planning and community support, adding construction marks a major step forward.
The not-for-profit development is designed to provide long-term affordable housing while encouraging a strong sense of community. The co-op also emphasizes environmentally responsible building practices.
Occupancy is targeted for December 2026.
