A snowmobiler managed to make it safely to shore after crashing through the ice on the Rideau River near Kemptville on Sunday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Police say the incident happened around 5 p.m. on the Rideau River near County Road 43. The driver was able to get out of the water without help and did not require medical attention.
OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson said there were no injuries reported. The snowmobile remains in the river and will need to be recovered by its owner once conditions are safe.
This marks the second snowmobile crash through ice on the Rideau River in the past week. Last Monday, another rider went through the ice near Burritts Rapids and was treated for hypothermia.
Police are reminding residents that ice conditions can change quickly, especially after recent warmer temperatures. The OPP is urging the public to avoid travelling on ice where conditions are unknown.
