The Lanark Highlands Fire Service is inviting the community out for a night of laughter this Friday as it hosts a Yuk Yuks comedy show fundraiser featuring a strong lineup of Canadian talent.
This year’s headliner is Rick Currie, who spent eight years on The Rick Mercer Report. He’ll be joined on stage at the Lanark Civitan by Amer Rez and Carly Baker.
The fundraiser has become a familiar and successful event in the community.
Chief Stephen Rothwell says last year’s show helped raise money to support a member of the fire service whose family was going through a difficult time.
This year, the focus is shifting toward the fire department’s public education efforts.
Funds raised will go directly toward community outreach initiatives, including refreshing Sparky — the fire safety mascot frequently seen at local events. Rothwell says the cost to update these initiatives are significant, but they play an important role in fire prevention education.
He adds the event is about more than just fundraising, it’s also about strengthening the connection between the fire service and the community.
Tickets for the Yuk Yuks comedy show are available through Eventbrite by searching “Lanark Highlands Fire Yuk Yuks Event.” A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door.
